Class Supply List
Watercolor Supply List:
I buy most of my supplies from Cheap Joes Art Supplies in North Carolina - 1-800-227-2788 . If you have supplies already, bring the materials you already use to class. I am listing local suppliers below but you will get a better price and selection with mail order.
Paper- Arches 140 lb watercolor block- 11"x 15."Buy Cold Press. If you have other brands bring them to class.
Brushes- Buy watercolor brushes NOT oil! You will need a 1" flat brush and either a #6 or #8 round. American Journey is a good brand to start with. I like Winsor Newton brushes but as a beginner they may seem expensive.
Paints- Purchase tube paints. I like Winsor and Newton, Daniel Smith and Holbein brands. Buy artist grade. Student grade is less expensive but you'll use more paint! Avoid Cotman and Graham paints. I use transparent paints and we will discuss this in class.
Colors: Sap green, Primary Yellow or Aureolin Yellow, Cobalt Blue, Verditer Blue, Phthalo Green,
Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Permanent Rose and violet or mauve ( NOT MARS VIOLET)
Optional Paint Colors: Alizarin Crimson, Indian Yellow, Quinacridone Magenta, and Quinacridone Gold.
Tools: Palette with a large central mixing area ( I like the Stephen Quiller Round palette). Large white plastic plates can be a good short term substitute for a palette, small knife, masking or painters tape, Drawing Pencil , Two containers for water ( I use painters buckets) Paper towels, spray bottle to mist your paints, eraser (kneaded is best). If you have individual sheets of watercolor paper bring a board as support. A heavy card board mailing envelope works well. A notebook to keep notes and hand-outs.
Local Suppliers: Plaza Art, Cincinnati, Michael's Arts and Crafts, Hobby Lobby in Miamisburg, AC Moore in Centerville.
